So leaving Naples wasn't so tough. Gotta say, it's the warmest ocean swim I've ever experienced. Can't imagine if it was warm out. Anyway, Ramada breakfast bar was a hit and we got on the road around 11. On our way we stopped off at Venice Beach, Florida. Heard it's got TONS of sharks' teeth but we found none. EVERYONE was digging for them but I saw few victories. Plus, kids could only stand in about the first 6 feet or so. Then it dropped off to over 5 feet. Made for a steep entry and some very abusive waves on the beach. After an hour or so we decided to get back in the car, have lunch, and head up the road to Siesta Key across from Sarasota.
Again, the Gerz-Escandon clan had recommended this beach. Found a place that gave a teacher discount. Can you believe that? Seems quaint and cool. One bedroom with fold-out couch is nice enough but we've had to call the front desk three times for things that should have been done. That's a pain but maybe they'll make up for it.
This has been our first Florida rain day. We had an afternoon shower in Orlando but this one came in around 3:30 and stayed until 8p. Fortunately, we got a short walk on the beach in before it came down. That made for a late dinner but allowed us to watch the painful end of the USA Women's World Cup loss. Dinner was raucous at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar. If only I were 50, single, and rhythmically-challenged. This would be the place to tie on my dancing clogs and get down. Kids didn't care. They just thought it was too loud.
Tomorrow, Wendy's talking about running on the beach and who knows what else. We're here for a couple of days so I'm just glad to not be driving.
